The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans imposed by the US on five Europeans involved in fighting digital hatred and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.

European Leaders Decry US Move as ‘Coercion’

European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron charged Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions targeted figures who have been at the heart of campaigns to introduce legislation regulating US-based technology firms.

“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” stated a senior US official in a social media post. “The current administration will not stand for such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
